It feels like I squeezed an awful lot into today, but it was all good, exciting stuff, so I thought I'd give you a summary. This morning we set off to drive to Cressing, which is a small village in Essex. We are holding a prayer venue there in a couple of weeks so our task was essentially to scout around a bit, check out a 'walled garden' where we're going to be running a guided prayer walk, and get some 'on location' ideas.
After a route-planning website induced travel nightmare (The sheet said 'after 5 roundabouts', there were no roundabouts! The sheet said 'turn left into Long Lane after 0.8miles', there was no left turn, and no sign of Long Lane... etc), we finally got there. It was quaint and medieval, and we have the joy of decking out a prayer room which is currently decorated with a selection of 3inch spider carcases, huge cobwebs and a varying selection of scythes and intriguing garden implements (which look a lot like instruments of medieval torture). Anyway, we got some ideas somewhere in it all.
Next we drove to Hatfield Peverel, (incurring some more route-planning disaster) to find the SA's area office delightfully nestled in a residential street. We had a useful meeting and got our heads a bit more around what we will be doing there.
Then we drove back to Wandsworth, by now it was rush hour so we crawled along the 'Mile End Road', which anyone Salvation Army will recognise as the birthplace of the movement. It was very stirring to be there, but I will post seperately about that.
This evening we have been to one of the more 'interesting' estates in the borough to do some prayerwalking. It was really great to be out on the streets, the people working there have been doing amazing things behind the scenes, inviting young people into their homes etc. We prayed outside the local youth club, and got all excited because it was called the 'DEVAS Club', which we noticed spelt SAVED backwards... nice touch. It was a great night and one of those evenings that really makes you feel alive and that prayer makes a difference.
Spent a lot of time today planning and dreaming and chatting through ideas and visions for the future, so i'm generally feeling quite inspired by that.
Also met some people who are really involved with Catholic Charismatic Renewal, so that was exciting too.
Tomorrow it's back to the office to try and process some of the stuff today brought about. :-)
