I just had a very odd moment at work. I went to the ladies to brush my hair, and to do that I have to walk past the goods lift, which is tucked away at the end of the corridor. When I looked at the lift, the doors were open, but the lift was stuck just below where the doors were, (So you could see the top half of the lift but the rest was below the floor), you could see down the sides to where the lift shaft was... a little disconcerting.
What was more worrying was that when I came out, about 3 minutes later, the doors were shut and the lift had gone, leaving me wondering if I had imagined the whole affair, or if the lift had plummted to the basement (although I guess the doors wouldnt have shut if this was the case?)
It was one of those moments that jolts you, when something as 'normal' as a lift is in a position where it shouldn't be, or doing something different than we expect it to. It made me think that often, this happens with other things in our day to day lives. People act differently than we expect - for example, people we are close to just dissapearing! Or sometimes we expect a meeting or a service to go one way and it turns out another. Trains are late, Objects go missing.
All of these things have the potential to stress me out, as I like things to be in order! But I wonder whether, instead of getting stressed and trying to force things back to normal, sometimes I should let things go and see how they pan out? And see what God is trying to do through the detour?
Its so true what you write. Some things in life we just don't notice until they aren't 'normal' anymore.
I think with God we should always expect the unexpected, we never know precisely what He's going to do. Only that its going to be good. Be expectant of God to do something, but don't decide what that will be. God knows best.
Great blog, looking forward to reading more.
God bless,
James
