Last night we had a prayer concert as part of our 24-7 week (the last one before they knock the Boiler Room down!). It was a practice one for when we are in the Czech Republic next week, as we're leading a couple of prayer concerts out there.

I have a friend who has spent most of her adult life 'covered up', for a number of reasons. Today was so special, because she came to church with her hair down, looking really beautiful. I was so moved by it I welled up in the middle of the lunch club. All the way home it made me think about what God is like, and how he is bringing us all along on a process of being 'uncovered'.

Probably about a year ago now, a friend of mine asked me which of the characteristics of God I most readily connected with, which made the most sense to me and why.
At the time, I was momentarily flummoxed. I mean, of course I knew these characteristics, I could merrily reel off a list of them, I had even led teaching and spoke on some of these characteristics. Why was I so stumped when the question became personal?

I'm up in Liverpool at the moment, with 8 of our youth group, just relaxing and seeing the sights. We wanted to take them away to orient them in preparation for our trip to the Czech Republic in two weeks, so we could practise working together and that sort of thing.

I just had a very odd moment at work. I went to the ladies to brush my hair, and to do that I have to walk past the goods lift, which is tucked away at the end of the corridor. When I looked at the lift, the doors were open, but the lift was stuck just below where the doors were, (So you could see the top half of the lift but the rest was below the floor), you could see down the sides to where the lift shaft was... a little disconcerting.

I have been busy over the last couple of weeks writing prayer diaries, and then travelling to Liverpool to meet and chat with the Boiler Room teams from there and the lovely Shetland Islands.
Aside from fiendish travelling, I have also been enjoying settling into my new room (it's very pink, and consequently lovely), my curtains are held up by drawing pins, which is a bit of a drawback, but that is only a minor problem!

I've been thinking a lot over the last couple of days how some of the journeys we take can feel like the biggest detours.
I also heard someone speak about co-ordinates, that when something changes (i.e. you move location, change job or something), it takes a while to get your co-ordinates back, you have to 'find God' in the new circumstances.

"The restoration of the church will surely come from a sort of new monasticism which has in common with the old only the uncompromising attitude of a life lived according to the Sermon on the Mount in the following of Christ. I believe it is now time to call people together to do this." Dietrich Bonhoeffer
