I'm up in Liverpool at the moment, with 8 of our youth group, just relaxing and seeing the sights. We wanted to take them away to orient them in preparation for our trip to the Czech Republic in two weeks, so we could practise working together and that sort of thing.
We arrived last night, and after a bit of administrative wangling about bedrooms and keys, we all settled down to sleep. Today we (well they) woke quite late, and we did a prayer activity in the Boiler Room. They had to wander round and find something that talked about where they are at with God at the moment, I was really blessed and encouraged by some of the things they picked out.
Then we went down into the city in our trusty van, we walked round the old docks and chatted about what had happened there over the years. The youth climbed on statues and wandered around. Then we walked up into the shopping area and had lunch. This afternoon we got the ferry and crossed over the Mersey to Birkenhead, and then back again. It was freezing but really interesting, and I'm glad to be able to say I've done it. Then we drove up to the Roman Catholic Cathedral, the art and architecture was amazing, with brilliant stained glass and lights giving the inside of the building an amazing atmosphere.
After we had wandered round a bit more, we went back to the Boiler Room and are going to spend the evening having chinese and watching a dvd. Its so nice to be away and to just be able to wander around and relax. I love my job, but its great to be able to be here without having to think very much, or speak, or do anything 'work' related... bliss!
